Mutton Bustin’ Registration

Age & Weight Limits
  • Ages 4-10 Years Of Age
  • Contestants Must Not Weigh More Than 60 Lbs
Required Gear
  • Helmet and Safety Vest: Mandatory for All Riders (Helmets and Vests are provided by KCFA)
Clothing
  • Strongly Recommended: Long Pants, Long Sleeve Shirts and Closed Toe Shoes. (Boots Are Recommended). Recommended Clothing Is Only Suggested But Not Required.

Entry Process
  1. No Pre-Entries will be accepted. The KCFA requires on-site entry of applications. The First 25 Contestant Applications will be accepted each night (Friday-September 4th, Saturday-September 5th and Sunday-September 6th, 2026. A non-refundable registration fee of $25.00 is required to enter. $5.00 of the Registration fee will fund the KCFA Karen Rust Memorial Livestock Scholarship Fund. Registration Process Includes a Parent and/or Legal Guardian completing and signing a Liability Waiver and paying the non-refundable fee of $25.00 in form of cash.
  2. Limited Spots. Entry Registrations are capped at 20 Riders per Night. Of The First 25 Contestants Ten Contestants Will Be Drawn For Heat #1 and Ten Contestants for Heat #2.
  3. Closing Of Registration. Shortly After Registration Closes And All Applications Have Been Verified And Are In Attendance As Close To 7:00 P.M. As Possible, A Lottery Drawing of the Contestants For Heat #1 and Heat# 2 Will Take Place and be announced on site.
How to Enter

Entry Table Will Be Set Up At Rodeo Arena in A Designated Area With Signage. Registration Opens Nightly From 5:45P.M. till 6:45 P.M. The First 25 Registrations Will Be Accepted. Applicants must be fully dressed and will be required to step on provided scale to verify weight.


Awards

All registered contestants will receive:

  1. Bandana
  2. Mutton Bustin Bracelet
  3. Carnival Wrist Band
  4. Participation Rosette

All Mutton Bustin’ Rides Will Be Scored by Judges. Placement is by scores marked by the Judges, the shorter the ride the lower the score and the longer the ride the higher the score.

  • 1st Place: Winner in Each Heat Night $40.00 Cash
  • 2nd Place: Winner in Each Heat Night $30.00 Cash
  • 3rd Place: Winner in Each Heat Night $20.00 Cash

Safety And Animal Care
  1. No Parents/Legal Guardian/Family Members are allowed behind the chutes or riding area. Parents/Legal Guardian/Family Members will be directed to a waiting area to watch their child Mutton Bust and after riding your child will be returned personally to you by a Mutton Bustin Director for their safety.
  2. Riders Must be physically and emotionally able to handle the ride and if the Mutton Bustin’ Chairperson determines that a child is unable to safely ride and there is a litigate concern of safety and/or serious injury to the child and/or sheep, then they said Chairperson reserves the right to disallow and disqualify the ride. The decision of the Chairperson is final.

Scoring Procedures
  1. Riders Must Stay On For 4 Seconds To Receive A Score. Scores Are Based On Rider Personality, Sheep Difficulty, Ride Time and Distance Of Sheep.
  2. All Mutton Bustin Riders Will Be Scored By Judges.
  3. Decisions of the Judges Are Final. No Re-Rides Will Be Given. Event Director’s Decisions Along With Judges Are Final for Any Questions That May Arise Regarding the Event.
  4. Parents/Family Members and Contestants Must Conduct Themselves In A Fair And Supportive Way Towards ALL Contestants. Undue roughness or poor sportsmanship will not be allowed. Failure to do so will Result in the Disqualification of the contestant and possible removal of Parents/Legal Guardian/Family Member(s) and/or Contestant from the KCFA arena. Security Officer will be on duty during registration and announcement of lottery chosen riders.

Photography/Interview Release and Indemnity Agreement

All Mutton Bustin’ winners pictures will be taken immediately after each heat at the photo opt area located at the Mutton Bustin’ registration area. The Parent/Legal Guardian Signature on the Mutton Bustin’ Application grants permission to the Kendall County Fair Association for the Mutton Bustin’ Applicant be photographed and/or interviewed in connection with the Mutton Bustin’ event. The Parent/Legal Guardian understands that any photograph or interview may be used by the Kendall County Fair Association, Inc. in any social media and/or printed materials promoting the Kendall County Fair Association, Inc.
